In 2011, Thomas Goetz, the then Executive Editor of Wired Magazine, presented what is yet, one of my favourite TedTalks. Fast forward to 2017 and it seems we are still falling short on how healthcare information is delivered to patients.
The good news is that patients can now access their laboratory results from the major laboratories online, in some cases before the results are even transferred to the requesting MD. But there's a catch, the content of these reports is still in a format which will not mean much to most.
While on one hand there is a push to engage patients in their own healthcare management, little is being done to ensure that the information is presented in a form which is not only useful but actionable through decisions about lifestyle changes, medication compliance and regular check points with their MD's.
